Real to Reel

     Image from Magpie Tales

The first time
I heard a recording
of my voice,
without the deeper,
lower frequency vibrations
enhanced by traveling
through bone,
I was so upset I didn’t talk
for two days.

Imagine the shock
when I first heard myself sing.
So much for the,
“become a rock star”
career path.

  2. It's funny how strange and almost surreal our own voices sound to us when we actually here them recorded, and not from the "inside" as we are used to. Sorry about your singing aspirations being side-lined, but there's always the writing, the humor & the one-liners my friend!

  3. I hate hearing myself on recordings... my voice sounds so small and childlike... which to me, doesn't sound like me at all!

    1. Thank you Vandana. You know, those willing to laugh at themselves will never cease to be amused. That's a paraphrase from someone I can't remember.

  7. If you really wanted to be a singer- sorry. I remember not recognizing my voice as mine the first time I heard it. Strange.

  9. Nice 'take'. We're so often not quite what we think we are, yet rarely do those who know us, share our disappointments.
