Monday Morning in the City

Hard sunlit scowl
whacks me to the pavement;
bruised cheek and ego,
scream for a break, but
it’s a smack down –
no compromise.

People teeming, streaming past
over and around.
Get outta the way
or squashed under foot.

Serving up
a steaming helping of
 gimme -
everyone’s clamoring
for seconds.

  7. I'm so glad I'm no longer in that throng. Your last stanza is great. Love the "steaming helping of gimme".
    The more you have, the more you want. That's why they say the rich are never satisfied. Have a good weekend, Mary.

  10. Yeah--I hate cities...you remind me why, not that people are any different elsewhere, but at least there aren't so many of them. Great to see you 55-ing, my friend.

  15. ... & don't take it personal. You know, when I visited I found people friendlier than I expected. But, yes, I can see one doesn't want to fall during rush hour.
