I didn't know
I had an idyllic childhood.
I only knew my piano teacher’s house
smelled of cabbage.
I knew Sandy was nice,
mostly,
Bryan’s was mom was scary,
and the Cowell boys
had flaming match fights in their basement.
And I knew
when the street lights came on
it was time to go home.

Lots of scary moms out there, but nothing going home won't fix in this one, Mary. They say a happy childhood is the only form of riches that can't be lost, and that's how you make it feel here.
ReplyDeleteYup, I had it pretty good. As Joe Walsh would say, "I can't complain but sometimes I still do." ;-)

DeleteI remember going home when the street lights turned on. But generally we stayed out of each other's houses.
