Today is fragile.
She is cold, white, eternal;
with each smile
she threatens to split -
shimmering, shivering
into a thousand
pieces.
Can you put her back together
just the way she was?
She is subterranean,
a treasure hidden in a field,
shrouded in layers
to protect, insulate.
Still, she breaks.
Today is fragile.

ReplyDeleteI see this as an ode to Earth, because she's fragile and I doubt we can put her back together again. Nice to be back and reading you.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful lilt to this, Mary--and fragility is always with us in beauty, whether of a day or a face or a flower...yet nothing seems able to eradicate it--but I sure know folks who can break a good day in half.
