Queen of the Stone Age

     Museum by Tess Kincaid

Let us not concoct
healing potions for the dead,
nor invent
new colours
for blind eyes.
     -Hilda Doolittle

I dream
that I am on display
I have no privacy
except inside my own mind.
So I go about building an
inner life of vast spaces
empty of people
with wind and sun and
nightjars
singing me into bed.
Meanwhile
I stare blindly past
the gawking people
past the marble floors
glass doors
past the
streetfuls of cars and crowds,
buildings, bridges
mountain ridges
past the curve of the earth
past Moon, Mars,  Pluto
Milky Way,
out and out,
past a thousand galaxies
through time itself.

  3. Hey, love the approach.
    LMAO at the lines: "
    I stare blindly past
    the gawking people"

Imagine being a bust, just minding one's own business and just wanting to do a little private thinking, but with all those people ogling at you all day . . . lol

She's not just a pretty face is she?
    Thinking those deep philosophical thoughts.

    Loved it Mary . . . . :)

    1. Thanks Eddie. I always feel terribly bad for animals in zoos as well.

    2. Funny if a gorilla at the Zoo turned round to everyone and said, "Get lost you horrible lot and let me contemplate my navel in piece!" . . . lol

    1. Thanks Michael. It sort of makes me think of an animal in a zoo, which makes me sad.

  9. I could live with "building an
    inner life of vast spaces
    empty of people
    with wind and sun and
    nightjars" - superb imagery.

    1. Yes, inside one's mind can be a lovely place. Btw, you probably know, but I feel like maybe I should explain that a nightjar is an Egyptian bird that sings at night.
