    Image from Tess Kincaid

Do not wake me
from my green dreams.
In them we are blameless
perfect, and the garden is ours.
The marbled world, blue and new
grows through me
like the pit of a peach
I cling to,
fruit sweet and ripe
and dripping
with juices.
No, do not wake me
from my green dreams.

Here are 55 words (including title) for the toads at the Imaginary Garden about the picture from Magpie Tales.

  1. Your words are enchanting, like the image is as well. I love the line about the pit of the peach. Marvelous!

  2. I love the tone of this poetic creation myth that empowers the dreaming, that gives her the desire to remain in paradise--not because she's ignorant, but because her intelligence tells her that the grass is not only not as green on the waking side... but maybe poisonous, too.
