Gestalt Man

Image from

His eyes are filled with far away -
with wind and clouds and scorching sun.

His lips can spit a curse to kill
or kiss away nightmares.

His hands have touched fire
and death and life too;
still they are so tender.

His voice is music
in a minor key
that I could listen to for years.

Farewell Abby

It’s amazing to me
that in the midst of
life goes on…

Pockets of desperation,
tragedies worthy of Shakespeare,
are surrounded by the commonplace:
As she struggles for her last, gurgling breath,
he digs in his pockets for bus fare.

But if it were not so
surely, we would be shattered.

This is for the incomparable G-man and his FF55.
Tuesday my sweet horse Abby died.  She was a grand old lady of 31, and it was a short struggle, only one day.  Still, even for that short time, the world would not stop for her.  But I did.  So, cheers Abby - I hope the grass is greener for you on the other side.  (Added after the first few comments)

No matter the sparkles,
or what reflects off the surface,
you are deep
and deep
and deep.

Frame of Reference

Patterns are superimposed.
Shadows cut through sunlight.
Boxes are filled, labeled, filed, closed
with smart economy.

There is comfort
in repetition and regularity.
We can predict
with certainty
where the next line
will be drawn,
and the next.

But step through
the open door
and beware
the lavish beauty that awaits you.

A storm is coming
as you pass through the
cave’s gaping mouth.
The center does not hold;
knots loosen, ropes flap and fray.
They wrap around your ankles
like hobbles,
tighten at your throat
like a noose
as you choke on crumbs of bread.
You've lost your way
and the labyrinth becomes
a maze.

These are 55 words for G-man and his FF55.
