Dragons

One
day I’ll
come for you
scale your tower
save you-

but now
I battle my dragons,
slaying them all, but
one.
How can I put
the three-sided
blade through
that last dragon,
the last
one?

Meanwhile, you wait
growing grey and
singing blue

One
day I’ll
come for you
scale your tower
save you

  1. the refrain has a great beat to it...

making someone wait though? slaying dragons (metaphorically) is not always the easiest and some we tend to cling to...

  2. Yes Brian...and when all the dragons are gone, what do we have left?

  3. Hmmm...interesting dilemma...to slay all your dragons and rest and get fat on your laurels, so to speak; or leave one so that you must remain ever vigilant, keeping your edges sharp and honed--feeling alive but perhaps risking the loss of someone waits for you. Guess it all comes down to choosing your battles. Love the metaphor in this, Mary. Amazing piece in only 55 words!

  5. The last dragon's always the hardest to slay.

  6. There is something quite poignant about slaying the final dragon. Who is to carry on the species? No more battles to fight! Will he grow old and complacent.

Will his reward, high in the tower, be worth it??

    Thanks for the visit.

  7. I like it. One battle at a time is the way to win the war. "..growing grey and singing blue..." I can relate.

  8. Eric - yes...that last dragon is tough; thanks!

Rnsane - Right, we may find ourselves clinging to the last dragon! You're welcome, I enjoyed yours too :o)

Hedgewitch - Thank you...lol, I almost edited out the growing grey, glad you could relate (I think!)

  9. This was lovely. "One day" is one of those well meaning phrases that never ever seems to come.

  13. Oh!! Dragons.. they are scary. All of us have a few to many - we tend to cling to those for life..

Loved how you would slay all but one!

  14. Thanks all. As you can perhaps tell I have a love/hate relationship with my draons! I guess it's easy for a fear to become our crutch. I appreciate your reading and commenting. And G-Man thanks for the forum.
