Fishin'

I carry a sackful of words
down to the river,
then string each one
on a line
and cast them in.

They flash and bob,
such jaunty bait;
I wonder what
I will catch.

This is for IGRT where Peggy asked us to write about the things we carry.  Click on the link and check it out.

  5. love it! It seems, to my mind, that you would fish to catch words. I love the way you twisted it. We do use words for bait. I suppose what you catch depends upon which words you have put on your hook.

  6. I love the metaphor - so thrilling when the line jiggles and tightens, when one sees finally the poem glistening in the sun, complete (even if in need of scaling and cutting before consumption).

  16. I love this poem, Mary. My father wrote books about rivers and fishing. He was a great dad, and all of us miss him. This poem brought him to mind vividly. Thank you.
