Thanksgiving Thoughts

I’m not always thankful at appropriate times;
my rhythm is off and I’m not good with rhymes,
but somehow I can’t help think that Thanksgiving
might not look so lovely, viewed from reservation living.
I don’t mean to be difficult, rude or offensive
but it seems that our holiday is awfully expensive.

Please excuse my negative comments on Thanksgiving.  I do have a whole cartload of stuff I'm thankful for.  And I do think it's good to get together with family and friends and express this gratitude.  I just don't want to forget how I got here.  So I wish everyone all the best and  I'm really thankful for G-man, FF55 and this great online writing community.

  1. Yes, our tradition of a groaning board of plenty has an ugly underside to it in the treatment of those who helped us start it. Well said, Mary. I am thankful you felt comfortable speaking your mind among friends. And for the other things you mention, like 55's, too.

  10. Holidays don't have to be expensive! Pity that people should think they do.

  11. Mary,
    Nicely put. You've inspired me to post one afterall. Thanksgiving has been stolen and I'm quite bitter about it. When people must now leave their family gatherings to shop on Thanksgiving Eve, it takes the pleasure out of the night, the lingering around a table with conversation and wine, or pie and coffee, board games, music and cards. The things we used to do. The holiday is becoming offensive as well as expenseive.
