Willow Manor Ball

How exciting – my first Willow Manor Ball!  Thank you for everything Tess; you are the perfect host.

I carefully chose my dress
from the tree where they grow
behind the house.
The gloves I knit of
licorice laces.

As music saturates me
the elephant in the room
sits at my side on the couch,
imploring me with absinthe eyes.
How could I possibly say no?

At first I couldn't find a thing to wear
until I remembered the dress tree out back:

It was a tough decision, but in the end I chose this black and white number...
...and elephants of course.

And the mask I will be wearing looks like this:

Of course to go with elephants I must have the simple elegance of pearls:

Finally, to complete the ensemble, I've opted for these tied up heels...

...so there won't be any lost shoe incidents.

I promised to save the last dance for Babar, but could I have THIS dance with you?  Please won't you join me at the ball?

  1. Are you bringing the elephants? You look absolutely charming. Hope we meet up in the throng. The elephants would be a good attention getting device and I could for sure find you.

It is my first ball too and I am so excited.

  9. Asking advice on colour was a good idea I found. Let's hope your gorgeous shoes hang on. Altough they look like sitting down shoes to me :-)

  10. You will be the star of the show, I am sure, Mary. I checked out the others Willow says she has invited, and none of them can match you, with your elephants and pearls.

  11. Elegance at its best. The elephants are a big hit but I was a little concerned when placido stroked one and he almost caught the poor man up with his trunk!

As for the shoes - what size do you take because I don't think you like them really...............

    1. Hahaha - we'll have to get together and talk about a show swap Bee! And glad Placido wasn't swept of his feet by the elephant.

  13. Darling! I almost wore your exact shoes...but opted for the woolly socks, instead. Your elephants added a wonderful exoticness to the ball...but they snorted all the absinthe from the bar!

    1. Er...sorry about the absinthe. How can I make it up to you? And I think I'll swap you these shoes for your woolly socks next year - oh, my poor feet! But what a fabulous ball! Thanks ever so much Tess!

  18. Phew. For the longest time, I thought I was imagining the elephants. It almost convinced me to lay off the absinthe -- actually, I didn't have a choice, because someone had drunk it all.

  19. Oh I must have a dress tree as delightful as yours, I just have to! I should have worn your choice in shoes, as yes I lost mine just as I was warned again. I don't believe I saw you on the dance floor but I know those pearls! Perhaps next year we can share a glass of wine and catch up in the latest of gossip!

    1. Thanks Karen, I'd love to gossip over wine with you. lol, ever since Cindy I make an effort to keep track of my shoes. Even though I made it to the ball I spend so much time trying to keep the elephants out of the absinthe (and then from dancing on the tables) that I didn't get to circulate much. Next year for sure! Oh, and I'll send you some dress tree seeds so you can plant your own!
