The world is filled with echoes of
tissue paper sighs;
littered with
soft, sibilant requests
and soliloquies that wither on the lips.
Hope is stored on the top shelf
of a closet
safely wrapped in old newspapers,
only taken out for special occasions.
With desire sketched in pencil,
longing diluted,
it only hurts a little.

Thanks Pat, you're one cool cat.
DeleteMary Bach....
ReplyDeleteI hope that this is indeed Fiction.
One thing for sure, it's Dead On!
Loved your morose 55
A brilliant piece of work...As always!
Thanks for playing, and have a Cheesy Kick Ass Week-End
Thanks so much Galen, and thanks for hosting the 55 for us.
DeleteI tossed hope out a long time ago. If she shows up for special occasions, I take pot shots at her. Better to leave the tissue paper prayers behind and simply deal with the matter at hand.
ReplyDeleteMost days I think you're right...but not always.
DeleteThat wrings my heart. Poignant.
ReplyDeleteThank you ReBelle.
Deletelove the softness of your words in the opening stanza....we need to take that hope out a little more though i think...its a risk but well worth it...smiles...happy day to you ma'am

ReplyDeleteThank you Izzy.
DeleteIt's very good, Mary. The imagery/metaphors are telling and sad. A great 55cents worth.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Doctor. :o)
DeleteIn 55 words you broke my heart. I felt sad that hope was stashed, not often seeing the light of day. And your word choices here, Mary, are great. The play between sounds, not quite alliteration, is fun and compels the reader forth.
ReplyDeleteAww - thank you Kim. I appreciate this.
ReplyDeleteI adore coming here reading your words of wit and much wisdom. I totally believe in HOPE as HOPE,PRAYERS and ACTIONS are so crucial in tribulation times which the whole world is going through. Awesome words and in just 55 words, YOU ROCK THIS!!! Mine is here
ReplyDeleteHave you a TRULY BLESSED WEEK!!!
hugs
shakira
