Dilution

The world is filled with echoes of
tissue paper sighs;
littered with
soft, sibilant requests
and soliloquies that wither on the lips.

Hope is stored on the top shelf
of a closet
safely wrapped in old newspapers,
only taken out for special occasions.

With desire sketched in pencil,
longing diluted,
it only hurts a little.

  3. I tossed hope out a long time ago. If she shows up for special occasions, I take pot shots at her. Better to leave the tissue paper prayers behind and simply deal with the matter at hand.

  9. It's very good, Mary. The imagery/metaphors are telling and sad. A great 55cents worth.

  10. In 55 words you broke my heart. I felt sad that hope was stashed, not often seeing the light of day. And your word choices here, Mary, are great. The play between sounds, not quite alliteration, is fun and compels the reader forth.
