Never Mind

Have you made accommodation
for gradual hurt?
Are there places
you no longer frequent
in your own mind?
Places that are too treacherous,
too raw, too honest...

Have civility and formality
calcified your best intentions
into a cage you can no longer escape?
Has it become too dangerous
to even think
of escape?

This is for G-man's FF55.  Go there to read other 55 word long pieces, and feel free to add your own.

  2. Hmmmm. So many questions. The hardest: the first. The gradual hurt, the one that sneaks up on you in the dead of night and gnaws on you in quiet moments. I always like what you write, Mary.

  3. I prefer to think that, rather than closing off those dark rooms in my mind, I've remodeled them - given them a mental home makeover, so they're better than before.

  9. Is hurt ever "gradual". This is a good poem, cal, on the surfacem but hinting at inner turmoil.

    1. It sure is Doc - and it's usually the hurt we are doing to ourselves - the insidious kind we're too scared to acknowledge.

Here endeth the first lesson from Caddoc the Wise!

      (Sorry for chipping in, Mary!)

  16. Great 55, Mary! I am one who believe that with WISDOM, comes the strength to let go of attachments and thus begins the healing but that is just me.I am a very forgiving and patient person and I think I have learn to love myself enough not to know I do not need to let others hurt me.It is still hard but again, that is when self isolation prevails. I really like this piece, Mary. You are such an awesome writer, such a thinker. Very cool!

    Mine is here
