Mid-Winter Light

A yellow bird                                                                                                      
flutters
inside a shrinking cage
and darkness
hugs us
this mid-winter night.

That is very much the feeling of winter, I think--for me the bird is the sun, held in that cage of darkness and cold--but it's just part of the cycle--otherwise we would never appreciate freedom and warmth in the same way, right? Unless you are a Californian or something. ;_) Thanks for all your support over the last few years Mary, and for all the laughs. Happy New Year.
