Outsider

I tried my best not to be pouty
or bitter or whiney or shouty
when the cool girls wore minis
that showed off their innies,
while my lame belly button’s an outie.

Here is a loosely configured (and thought out) Limerick for day 6 of NaPoWriMo using the prompt of 'outside' (almost) given by Peggy at IGwRT.  :o)  Disclaimer: this is a piece of creative writing, and any resemblance to real belly buttons is purely coincidental. :o)

  2. Oh, what fun, Mary, although my mind thinks "mini skirt" and can't imagine a skirt showing off a belly button. The old-fashioned old lady here, I guess, but I really enjoyed the read. I love the first two lines. I have to try not to be any of those things, every day, when I'm not feeling well. Fortitude does not come naturally, I'm afraid.

  3. Mary, so cute, an innie and in outie! Mine is an innie, and I'm going to write a poem about it soon... with age, it has gone from a perfect little "O" to a frown!! I used to wear low-slung bell bottoms (yeah, that was in the 70s) that showed my belly button. I don't care for pierced ones, though, because the navel itself is a work of art. Gilding the lily, no?

You are so funny to call yourself "other Mary" on Toads. Loved this - also like your waxing and waning moon. Wish Wordpress had that gizmo! Amy

  6. I have an innie... and I still pout at the "cool girls" bellies :) Really clever response to this prompt. I adore it!

  7. I bet even the cool girls were feeling like outies! Very cleverly done.

  8. Laughin all the way here. O the curse of the bungling doctor who messed up the maiden's umbilical knot! I hate that one.

  9. :o) Thanks everyone! I'm falling behind in this cursed poem a day, but I'll be around either later tonight or bright and early tomorrow and read all your lovely pieces!
